A US Liberty Ship named after an early American Journalist and first editor of the Los Angeles Times, Charles Fletcher Lummis. Laid down on 13 April she was launched on 5 May 1943. Her first voyage was from Los Angeles to Hobart, and then on to Karachi and Milne Bay in PNG. Accordoing to newspaper reports of her launching he was either the 162nd or 182nd Liberty ship built by the California Ship-building Corporation
Armament - Stern-mounted 4-in (102 mm) deck gun for use against surfaced submarines, variety of anti-aircraft guns.
