Unmarked Burials at St Mary in the Valley

The graveyard at St Mary-in-the-Valley (River Road, Kelmscott) contains a number of unmarked burials. While this has always been known, ground penetrating radar was used at the site in 2019, confirming just over 100 unmarked burials in various places around the church and cemetery.

While the majority of these unmarked burials may remain unidentified, there are several cases where family lore states that a person was buried in the Cemetery (but for which no headstone or records exist). In a small number of cases, locations remembered down family lines somewhat match the results of the radar survey.

This page will partially list individuals believed to be buried at St Mary-in-the-Valley. Researchers should however note that these assertions have not yet been confirmed by written records.
