Enlisted at Maddington, away from the knowing eyes of the Armadale community as he had given an incorrect birthdate (25 Mar 1924 - v - 17 Nov 1925). However, he was posted to the [[2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion]] so it would have been picked up.
Discharged on 14 Apr 1944 in South Perth at own request following service on part time basis for 2 years and 24 days.

During 1949 Wilfred married Hazel Cumber. Daughter Jennifer Constance.
