Enlisted at Maddington, away from the knowing eyes of the Armadale community as he had given an incorrect birthdate (25 Mar 1924 - v - 17 Nov 1925). However, he was posted to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion so it would have been picked up. Discharged on 14 Apr 1944 in South Perth at own request following service on part time basis for 2 years and 24 days.
