Brief History

As a result of re-organising AAMC units in Augus 1942, this unit was formed from the detachment of 2nd Fortress Company AAMC located at Georges Heights in New South Wales and given the name 72nd Australian Camp Hospital In November they moved to Bellevue Hill, and on moving to Ingleburn in January 1943, relinquished their fixed defences role. Their next move was to Wallgrove in June 1943 as the 72nd Australian Camp Hospital (Composite). Here they managed a small hospital and the Regimental Aid Posts attached to units throughout Sydney.
