Pre War

During 1935 Allan married Melba Miffawayn Giblin.

Electoral Roll entry: 1936 at Nicholson road, Cannington, carrier; 1937 at Railway street, Queens Park, contractor. While Allan was in the Army, Melba appears to have lived in Kelmscott.

War Service

Allan had been a member of the CMF's Western Command Troops Supply Column with regimental number W32824 from 30 Sep 1941 until 10 Sep 1942, before he enlisted in the 2nd AIF on 11 Sep 1942. At the time of his initial mobilisation his address was Jarrahdale where he was a truck driver, leading to his posting as a driver/mechanic TG III. His full time service began on 30 Sep 1941. Allan was admitted to the 110th Australian Base Hospital from 13 - 15 Nov 1941.


On 12 Dec 1941 Allan was appointed as a Lance Corporal on his completion of the No. 54 Driver/Mechanic Course. On 2 Jan 1942 Allan was promoed Corporal and in early March he moved to Melville camp to undertake a trade training course. Two months later on 17 May 1942 Allan was transferred to the 13th Australian Infantry Training Battalion while he attended a Fitter TGIII training course. On 10 Sep 1942 he joined the 24th Australian Company AASC, and on the next day enlisted in the 2nd AIF. On 25 Sep 1942 Allan was promoted Acting Sergeant. He was granted home leave from 28 Nov 1942 until 8:00am on 8 Dec 1942. On 17 Jan 1943 his promotion to Sergeant was confirmed.


On 1 Mar 1943 Allan and his unit entrained in Perth for Adelaide, enroute to Darwin where they arrived on 10 Mar 1943. On 31 Aug 1943 Allan was sent to Victoria to participate in a 'Workshop' training course, and during his time away from his unit he was sent to Perth (training course ?), returning to Victoria via an unknown ship that departed Fremantle on 22 Dec 1943, and arrived in Melbourne on 29 Dec 1943. On 18 Jan 1943 Allan rejoined his unit and remained with them until 9 Oct 1944 when he was transferred to the Northern Territory Reception Camp.


On 12 Jan 1945 he was transferred to 134th Australian General Transport Company. Allan was admitted to the 74th Australian Camp Hospital with hypertension on 15 Jan 1945. They diagnosed Arterial Hypertension and on 25 Jan 1945 transferred him to the 107th Australian General Hospital at Adelaide River, south of Darwin. On 4 Feb 1945 his medical classification changed to 'B1', and he was returned to his unit the following day. On 13 Feb 1945 he was transferred to South Australian Line of Communication Area Recruit Reception & General Duties Depot for re-allotment. On 4 Jul 1945 Allan was evacuated to the 105th Australian Military Hospital diagnosed with a hernia, before transferring Allan to the 'Kapara' Convalescent Home in Glenelg, Adelaide on 30 Jul 1945. On 6 Aug 1945 he returned to the Military hospital, and they sent him to the 111th Australian Convalescent Depot the same day. On 22 Aug 1945 he is judged to be fit enough to return to duty and is transferred to the South Australian Line of Communication Area Recruit Reception & General Duties Depot. They in turn transfer Allan on 5 Sep 1945 to Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for discharge which took place on 4 Oct 1945

Post War

Electoral Roll entries: 1954 - 1968 at Sydenham street, East Cannington; farmer; 1972 - 1980 at 116 Streatham street, Beckenham, stock dealer.
