Pre War

Ernest had married Violet Dransfield (1895 - 1977)in Bashford, Derbyshire, England in 1920, prior to their emigration to Australia. Violet died on 29 Jan 1977, aged 81 in Armadale. They had a daughter Raema Wood (1929 - 2019). On 25 Mar 1923 they boarded the 'SS Orcades' in London for Fremantle.

War Service

On 22 Mar 1942 Ernest enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps at Armadale as his deafness precluded entry into other forces. He was promoted Corporal in 'D' Company of 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion on 1 Jul 1942 and then participated in a demolition course at Guildford from 16 - 23 Aug 1942. On 4 Dec 1942 Ernest reverted to private at his own request, and on 2 Feb 1943 he transferred to the Navy where he was employed as a Constable General Services (Byford Armament Depot?) until discharged on 16 Oct 1945.

Post War

Electoral Roll entries: 1949 at Wishart street, Wooroloo, laundryman; 1954 - 1968 at Railway avenue, Armadale, laundryman; 1972 - 1977 at 18 Verill way, Armadale, retired.
