Pre War
During WW1 had served in the 32nd Battalion AIF. In early 1920 he married Jane Longman in the New Norcia district.

War Service
Enlisted on 23 Sep 1940 and posted to the 10th Garrison Battalion at Swanbourne. On 20 Jan 1941 he was transferred to 'Y' Company on a full time basis. Discharged on 25 Feb 1941 at his own request.
