Brief History

Originally titled 5th Light Field Ambulance, they were formed at Claremont in WA in March 1942, and came under the control of 3rd Australian Corps, moving to Northam with their main Dressing Station there, and Advanced Dressing Stations at Moora and Chidlows. In October they moved to Helena Vale, with sections at Chidlows, Mundijong and Northampton. In March the Main Dressing Station moved to Darlington, with detachments at Werribee, Mundijong and at the training camps near Harvey.

In November 1943 the declining number of troops in WA released the unit to a more active role on the eastern seaboard. In December they were at Jacky Jacky in Queensland from where they serviced units on Cape York. In February 1944 they unit's designation changed to 105th Australian Light Field Ambulance, with a section at Mutee head, and another at Eilanden River, 415 kilometers north west of Merauke in Dutch New Guinea. IN August 1944 the unit moved to Merauke to service the 20th Motorised Regimental Group, but left behind sections at Jacky Jacky and Horn island. These sections later moved to Thursday Island, and then by April 1945 they returned to Sydney. The main body was still at merauke where they remined until the end of the war.
