Pre WW 2

During WW1 Ken had served in the 10th Light Horse Regiment and in the 3rd and 4th Machine Gun Squadrons in Gallipoli, Palestine, and Syria. During 1924 he had married Lilah Constance Allum in Perth.

War Service

On 26 Oct 1940 Ken enlisted in the part time 'Y' (Militia) Company of the 5th Australian Garrison Battalion. Ken was promoted Acting Sergeant with 'Y' Company on 24 Dec 1940 and had his rank confirmed on 27 Feb 1941, having completed a 14 day full time course of instruction during January. On 15 Dec 1941 he was called up for full time duty and taken on strength by the 5th Australian Garrison Battalion.


From 5 - 24 Jan 1942 Ken attended another training course, resulting in him being promoted to Acting Lieutenant on 6 Feb 1942 while waiting for gazettal of his elevation to Commissioned rank which occurred on 6 Feb 1942. He was sent to several courses, including one in Seymour Victoria over the next 15 months, before he ceased full time duty on 31 Jan 1944 and was placed on the Retired List.

Post War

Electoral Roll entries: 1949 - 1968 River road, Roleystone, clerk; 1977 at 63 Waratah avenue, Dalkeith, retired.

Lilah Constance died 3 Sep 1979 aged 87 in Dalkeith.
