Bernice enlisted on 26 Jul 1944 at No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre, mustered as an Equipment Assistant. SHe was sent to No. 3 WAAAF Training Depot RAAF the same day to join the No. 36 Recruit Drill COurse which concluded on 23 Aug 1944.
