Two days later he was transferred to [[No. 4 Personnel Depot RAAF]] in South Australia, to prepare for a move to the Northern Territory. While there he completed No. 30 Radio Telephony Operators course. On 25 Jun 1944 Ernest was remustered as a Radio Telephony Operator and he reverted to Aircraftman as is normal on re-mustering, but was the same day reappointed as a Leading Aircraftman. On 5 Sep 1944 he was posted to [[No. 2 Reserve Personnel Pool RAAF]] which was then at Coomalie in the Northern Territory. The following day, 6th September,  he was posted to [[No. 110 Mobile Fighter Control Unit RAAF]] then located at Sattler in the Northern Territory. He moved with them to Morotai in late January 1945. On 27 Feb 1945 he was charged with having "Without urgent necessity, quits his duty in that he left his place of duty without authority." He was awarded 4 days Confined to Barracks.

Pre War

War Service

Ernest enlisted in the RAAF at No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre on 16 Jun 1942, mustered as a General Hand - Works. later the same day he was sent to No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF to undertake No. P167 Recruit Drill Course. On completion he was posted to No. 77 Squadron RAAF which was moving to the Northern Territory. However, before it moved he was designated to join No. 4 Service Flying Training School RAAF at Geraldton where on 16 Dec 1942 he was appointed Leading Aircraftman. He was then, on 19 Jan 1943 posted to the No. 72 Operational Base Unit RAAF and he remained with them until he was posted to No. 75 Operational Base Unit RAAF on 12 Oct 1943.

During 1954 Ernest married Wendy Estelle Rogers in Perth.
