War Service
George enlisted in the AIF on 13 Oct 1942 as a Trooper with the 25th Australian Cavalry Regiment. His RAAF records speak of him being a member of the unit in 1941 and 1942 (Militia ?). George was discharged from the Army on 2 Dec 1942 to allow him to join the RAAF the same day at No. 4 Recruit Centre RAAF. As an Aircraftman Level 2, he mustered as Air Crew V (Guard). 31 Dec 1942 posted to No. 6 Replenishing Centre 8 Mar 1943 posted to No. 4 Initial Training School RAAF at Victor Harbour in South Australia. 19 Apr 1943 remustered as Air Crew V (Pilot) while at No. 4 ITS. 22 May 1943 promoted Leading Aircraftman, and remustered as Air Crew II (Pilot). 26 May 1943 posted to No. 9 Elementary Flight Training School RAAF at Cunderdin 3 Aug 1943 posted to No. 4 SSTS at Geraldton 18 Nov 1943 promoted Temporary Sergeant and remustered as Airman Pilot at No. 4 SFTS 26 Nov 1943 posted to No. 5 Embarkation Depot RAAF and then on 12 Dec 1943 to No. 2 Embarkation Depot RAAF 27 Jan 1944 embarked in Sydney, and disembarked in the UK on 12 Mar 1944 18 May 1944 promoted Temporary Flight Sergeant at No. 11 PDRC 20 Aug 1944 George embarked in the UK for Egypt, disembarking there on 8 Sep 1944 18 May 1945 promoted Temporary Warrant Officer at No. 454 Squadron. 13 Aug 1945 granted a Commission as Pilot Officer.
