Pre War

War Service

Enlisted at Armadale on 21 Oct 1941, Desmond was called up for full time duty on 5 Jan 1942. He began with the 10th Australian Light Horse Regiment ww2 in Bunbury, but in June 1942 he was based at Wanneroo when granted leave. On 3 Feb 1943 he was treated for boils on his thighs. On 17 May 1943 he qualified as Trade Group III Range Finder.


Discharged on 10 Apr 1944, during his service, Desmond was granted leave without pay from 11 Aug 1942 - 11 Oct 1942; 31 Mar 1943 - 22 Apr 1943; 27 Jul 1943 - 19 Oct 1943; and 1 Mar 1944 - 5 Apr 1944.

Post War

During 1951 Des married Alma Beatrice Lilley. Electoral Roll entries: 1949 - 1963 'Bonneville", Challis road, Armadale, farmer; 1968 - 1972 at 44 Little John road, Armadale, farmer; 1977 - 1980 at Paulls road, Pinjarra, farmer.
