Brief History
Formation commenced at Tel-el-Kebir, Egypt on 10 Mar 1916 as part of the expansion of the AIF. Early troops were provided by the 1st Field Company, and within two weeks was able to commence training before crossing the Suez Canal at Fery Post for a camp on the eastern side at the end of the month, by which time it was at full strength.
On 17 Jun 1916 the unit moved to Alexandria where the bulk of the unit boarded HMT Kinfauns Castle for Marseilles via Malta, arriving on 29 Jun 1916, and then boarded a train for northern France where they provided support for the 14th Australian Infantry Brigade. 60 men died while members of this unit.
