Pre War

On 25 Jun 1925, 3 year old Edith, accompanied by her 23 year old Mother Vera, sailed from London for Fremantle aboard SS Beltana. The family moved to Karridale where her sister and brother were born.

War Service

Edith enlisted in the RAAF at the No. 4 RAAF Recruiting Centre on 18 March 1942mustered as a Mess woman. She was sent the same day to the No. 4 Recruit Depot RAAF at Pearce where she joined a Recruit Drill Course. On 16 Apr 1942 Edith was posted to the No. 4 Service Flying Training School RAAF at Geraldton. She was remustered asa a Cook on 7 Nov 1942. Edith spent from 17 - 20 Jul 1943 as a patient in the No. 4 Medical Receiving Station RAAF. She remained with the Flying Training School in Geraldton until 5 Sep 1943 when she was posted to No. 1 WAAAF Training Depot RAAF at Preston. Her next posting took place on 25 Nov 1943 when she was posted to HQ Western Area RAAF, and remained with them until 12 Apr 1944 when she was posted to No. 144 Radar Station RAAF at Cannington.


A year later on 2 Apr 1945 she was posted to No. 9 Elementary Flying Training School RAAF at Cunderdin. Two months later on 2 Jun 1945 her posting changed to No. 86 Operational Base Unit RAAF. Finally on 2 Jan 1946 Edith was sent to No. 5 Personnel Depot RAAF to take her discharge on 16 Jan 1946.

Post War

Electoral Roll entries: 1949 - 1954 at Railway terrace, Kelmscott; 1958 at 210 Holden road, Roleystone; 196 at 17 Edgebaston road Beverly Hills; 1977 at 6 Coongan avenue, Greenmount; 1980 number now 12 Coongan avenue, Greenmount.

On 27 Jul 1957 Edith married John Bell (1908 - 1972) an engineer. This was John's third marriage. They had one child.
