He was undergoing a full time camp from 17 Jul 1941, and on 22 Sep 1941 he was detached to the 13th Australian Independent Brigade Group Provost Platoon. On 1 Oct 1941 he was called up for full time duty at Melville and he was then allocated to Provost duties with the 13th Australian Independent Brigade Group Provost Platoon. On 10 Oct 1941 he was promoted Corporal, and on 24 Oct 1941 he was promoted Sergeant. Harold was admitted to the 110th Australian Base Hospital on 27 Dec 1941 for treatment, and was released to duty on 2 Jan 1942, but was granted sick leave until 5 Jan 1942 before rejoining the 13th Independent Provost Platoon at Melville before it moved to Chidlows.
