Pre War

War Service

Entered camp on 24 Jan 1916 and three weeks later was allocated to the 16th reinforcement draft for the 11th Battalion.

Sent to Egypt to complete his training, he was admitted to the No 3 Auxiliary Hospital at Heliopolis on 25 May 1916, suffering with Tuberculosis.

On 5 Jul 1916 he was sent back to Australia for medical discharge. Discharged by 5th Military District, 15 Apr 1917 - Tubercular disease


Post War

1917 Feb-Mar edition "...developed lung trouble and was six months in the hospital in Cairo. Now an inmate of Menzies Hospital, Perth. Never recovers from his TB and died aged 25. Parents were Charles, (a gardener) and Hannah who lived on "Winkfield Farm" in Beenup. Herbert was buried in the Anglican section of Karrakatta Cemetery.
