On 16 Apr 1945 Luke embarked on [[SS Ormieston]] in Sydney for New Guinea, disembarking at Lae on 24 Apr 1945. On 13 Jun 1945 he was admitted to the [[2/7th Australian General Hospital]] with a strained right Lumbar Vertebrae, returning to his unit on 25 Jun 1945.
