Brief History

Prior to this unit being established in July 1942 troops in the Northern territory were serviced by a detachment6 from 4th Military District with detachments at Alice Springs and Larrimah. They were to form the NT Force Canteens in July 1942 with their main bulk store at Adelaide River, and others at Winnellie, Larrimah and Alice Springs in addition to canteens in all main bases. By March 1943 they had added facilities at Vesteys, Berry Springs, Noonamah, Pine Creek, Mataranka, Katherine, Daly Waters, and Mt Isa (Qld).
