War Service

On 31 Dec 1943 Shirley enlisted in the Australian Women's Army Service at Claremont, and on 6 Jan 1944 she was sent to the 6th AWS Training Company in Claremont. At the end of the month she was transferred to the 25th AWAS Barrack on Rottnest Island and on 11 Nov 1944 Shirley was transferred to HQ Coast Artillery Fremantle. On 30 Dec 1944 Shirley celebrated a year in the service with a pay rise. The next day, 31 Dec 1944, she was sent to Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for reposting.
