During WW1 Bill had served in the British Army from 7 May 1913 until 27 Mar 1919 with the 1/1 Surrey Regiment, later the 3rd London Field Ambulance and the Army Service Corps. War Service
Bill was mobilised with the 10th Light Horse on 26 Sep 1940 and on 11 Jan 1941 he was posted to Bunbury. On 27 Jul 1942 he was transferred toteh 2nd AIF and given a new Army Number WX29445. On 12 May 1944 Bill was entrained in Perth for New South Wales where he joined the [[1st Australian Base Depot
