Brief History

1st Armoured Division Group Support Company AASC was formed in Northam, Western Australia in February 1942. It comprised a HQ, a composite section, four transport sections and a workshop element. In April they moved to Tamworth in New South Wales before briefly moving to Greta in May, and then back to Tamworth in June. In August they moved to Baan Ba and then to Turrawan in September. A reshuffle of Armoured units resulted in three light armoured divisions and the unit moved to Gunnedah where it split to form three independent transport platoons, one in support of each division.
