Brief History

When World War Two broke out, the 43rd Battalion was already linked with 48th Battalion forming the 43rd/48th Infantry Battalion. The battalions were unlinked in November 1939 and the 43rd Australian Infantry Battalion (Hindmarsh Regiment), a Militia unit, then undertook garrison and general defence duties during World War Two. This included a period in the Northern Territry as part of Darwqin's defence from December 1941 until March/April 1943 when it moved to North Queensland.

The 43rd Infantry Battalion continued to operate around Australia during World War Two until on 6 April 1944 the unit was disbanded
