From Our Contribution

Brief History

In its first incarnation this unit went through many changes from its formation in January 1942 as the 105th Australian Independent Brigade Group Ordnance Workshop' until it was reorganised in March 1943 as the 4th Australian Armoured Brigade Workshop which incorporated an AAOC Stores component. This unit moved to Singleton with a total staff of 194. In May 1942 the AAOC staff were separated out from the unit to form 4th Armoured Brigade Group Ordnance Field Park, and both units moved to Caboolture in Queensland. Here the unit was split to form workshop units for both the 2/6th Armoured Regiment and the 2/9th Armoured Regment.

A new 4th Australian Armoured Brigade Workshop was raised at Bandiana in Victoria in March 1945, moving to Nerang, Queensland in April. With a rear party in Australia, the remainder ofthe unit moved overseas by the end of May 1945 with detachments at Labuan and Balikpapan.
