Brief History

In early 1941 the training battlalions of the 7th Australian Infantry Division moved to Dimra in Palestine, where in April, the 'The Infantry Specialist Group was formed to train reinforcements for mortar, transport and intelligence roles during the Syrian campaign keeping 7th Division untis up to strength. Recalled to Australia with Japan's ewntry into the war, they left the Middle East in February 1942 for Mt barker near Adelaide.


They moved to Balcombe in July 1942, moving to Tenterfield in NSW in September. In May 1943 they merged with3/5th Infantry Special Group and 6th Infantry Special Group to form the new 1st Infantry Special Group.
