Brief History
This unit had existed previously in Port Moresby before being moved to Lae and renamed in October 1943. With Australian troops relieving the US troops on Bougainville in September, a new HQ 4th Australian Sub Base Area was formed in Lae during September to take over the US base at Torokina. They relocated there i October and from there supported the 2nd Australian Corps until the end of the war.
