Pre War

On 14 Jul 1911 the SS Ashburton sailed from London carrying 2 month old John and his parents and older sibling Charles.

During 1940 John married Ursula Johanna Doering (1910 - 1987) in the local district. Ursula died on 14 Dec 1987 at Mandogalup. Children Anthony David, Barbara Mae, Wendy Katharina

War Service

On 26 Apr 1942 John enlisted in the Volunteer Defence Corps and was allocated to the 3rd (Swan) VDC Battalion. On 28 Feb 1943 he was transferred to the 2nd (Fremantle) VDC Battalion, and on 26 Mar 1943 he was promoted first to Corporal, and then to Sergeant. Then on 4 Jun 1943 he was issued a new Army number of W53607 to replace the previous W69561. John was discharged at his own request on 14 Nov 1943
