Brief History

Established at the Exhibition Grounds in Brisbane in September 1942 from the earlier Transit Coy of Queensland Line of Communication Area General Details Depot, the new unit moved to Ascot Racecourse, responsible for troops going on leave or transiting through Brisbane. Their capacity in February 1943 was up to 1,000 men, and in August they moved back to the Exhibition Ground. A detachment moved to Townsville in November 1943, establishing the 19th Personnel Staging Camp. In May 1945 the unit moved to Moonooka (some records list this as Redbank) where they remained for the rest of the war.
