Remarks
Built for the Hamburg America Line and although it was laid down as Wettin, it was launched as Fuerst Bismark. Renamed in 1914 as Friedrichsruhe, and surrendered initially to the UK during 1919 (The Shipping Controller - Orient S.N. Co. Ltd) to assist with repatriation of troops, and then later transferred to France in 1921 as part of the reparations from Germany. From 1921 managed by Soc. des Services Contractuels des Messageries Maritime, Marseille with a new name SS Amboise, before being scrapped in Genoa, Italy in 1935.
Members of the AIF on special service as guards and officials returned to Australia on this ship after accompanying repatriated German internees and prisoners of war on SS Rio Negro from Australia to Germany from August to October 1919.
