Pre War

War Service

Wanda enlisted in the Australian Women's Army Service on 19 May 1944 at Claremont and on 22 May was sent to the 6th AWS Training Company for basic training before being posted to 5th Australian Advanced Ordnance Depot Provision Section on 19 Jun 1944. From 14 - 21 Jul 1944 Wanda received treatment from the 75th Australian Camp Hospital before transferring on 19 Aug 1944 to the 7th Australian Advanced Ordnance Depot. Wanda was reclassified on 1 Sep 1944 as a Trade Group II Clerk. She required medical treatment again from the 75th Australian Camp Hospital between 7 and 14 Nov 1944.


In January and the first half of February 1945 Wanda attended the No. 16 General Army Organisation and Ordnance Procedure course before again entering 75th Australian Camp Hospital from 28 Feb until 6 Mar 1945. On 17 May 1945 she began to receive Adult pay having completed 12 months service. From 8 November until 7 Dec 1945 Wanda was again in the good hands of the 75th Australian Camp Hospital where she was treated for Tonsillitis. On 10 Jan 1946 Wanda was evacuated to the 110th Australian Base Hospital in Perth suffering with sinusitis. Following treatment she was discharged on 12 Feb 1946 to her unit. Finally she was transferred on 17 Aug 1946 to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot for discharge which occurred on 23 Aug 1946.

Post War

During 1948 Wanda married William Richard Mitchell (1917 - 2018) in Perth.
