With his unit, Andrew moved to Queensland where on 15 Oct 1942 they boarded HMT 1850 in Townsville for Port Moresby, disembarking on 17 Oct 1942. On 16 Jan 1943 Andrew was transferred to the HQ New Guinea Force.
