On 10 Jun 1919, George was embarked at Port Said on HMT Ellenga for leave in the UK. Following this leave he was held in the UK until he boarded HMNZT Pakeha for return it Australia where he was discharged on 16 Dec 1919 by the 5th Military District.

A recent (2 Nov 1921) quiet wedding was that of Miss Susan Caroline Chapman, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. Chapman, of Belfast, Ireland, to Mr. William George Lyster, of Spring Farm, Jarrahdale.[1]
Three sons resulted John Charles (1923 - 1985), George Ralph (1925 - 2004) and Norman Grenville (1926 - 1995). Caroline died in 1992.
