War Service
Edith was called up for full time service in the Australian Women's Army Service on 18 Feb 1943 and was posted to the 6th AWS Training Company in association withthe 6th AWAS Barrack at Claremont for training. From 21 Feb 1943 until 14 Mar 1943 she was granted Leave without Pay (LWOP), before 16 April when she was classified as a Driver Trade Group 2. She was granted further LWOP from 17 Apr 1943 until 21 Apr 1943, and on her return, the next day she was posted to the 4th Australian Ambulance Car Company.
On 27 May 1943 Edith was detached to the 38th Australian Camp Hospital at Northam, rejoining her unit on 1 Jul 1943. On 25 Aug 1943 she was again detached to the 38th Australian Camp Hospital. She was again granted LWOP, from 14 Nov 1943 until 12 Dec 1943. Edith rejoined her parent unit on 26 Jan 1944 and the same day was detached to the 118th Australian General Hospital until 9 Feb 1944. On 22 Feb 1944 Edith was detached to the 37th Australian Camp Hospital at Melville, returning to her unit on 1 Mar 1944. From 1 - 8 May she was on LWOP, before being detached to an Anti-Aircraft unit's HQs from 10 - 24 May 1944. Her next detachment was on 5 Oct 1944 when she was with the 3rd Australian Corps School of Signals.
From 22 - 25 Nov 1944 Edith was a patient in the Harvey District Hospital. From 12 - 17 Feb 1945 Edith was detached to the 802nd Anti Aircraft/Coast Artillery Battery before on 21 Feb 1945 when she moved to the 110th Australian Base Hospital, returning to her unit on 2 May 1945. Her next adventure was a detachment to the 7th Australian Advanced Ordnance Depot at Nungarin from 16 May until 15 Jul 1945. From 7 Aug 1945 until 10 Oct 1945 she was detached to the 75th Australian Camp Hospital before transferring to the 110th Australian Base Hospital on 10 October. While there she was admitted as a patient, and treated for appendicitis on 9 Jun 1946, before being released back to duty with her unit on 22 Jul 1946. The same day she was transferred to the Western Command Recruit Reception & General Details Depot to prepare for her discharge which took place on 29 Jul 1946.
Post War
Edith married during 1947 to Ian MacEwan Carroll. Two children?
