On 2 Mar 1943 he was detached to HQ RAA 4th Division, returning to the Signals Company on 1 Apr 1943. on 27 Apr 1943 he entrained in Perth for Sydney, where on 6 May 1943 he boarded HMT Katoomba for Townsville, disembarking on 18 May.
