Landing with the rest of his unit in the late afternoon, early evening of 25 Apr 1915, he was wounded in action the next day, receiving a gun shot wound to his right knee. Treated on the beach, he was embarked on HMT Derfflinger for Alexandria where on arrival on 1 May 1915 he was admitted to the 17th General Hospital in Alexandria on 1 May 1915 for treatment.

On 29 Jul 1915 he was released to the Mustapha Convalescent Camp, but on 20 Aug 1915 he was again admitted to hospital, this time the Glymenopoulo Hospital. On 26 Sep 1915 he was embarked on HMHS Goorkha for England, where after almost 6 months recuperating and treatment it was decided to send Allan home.
