Entered Blackboy Hill camp on 19 Feb 1915, and was allocated to the 5th reinforcement draft for the 11th Battalion, travelling with them to Port Suez in Egypt aboard HMAT A20 Hororata, disembarking there on 18 May 1915. Cyril joined the 11th Battalion on Gallipoli along with 130 others on 15 Jun 1915, and was allocated to 'A' Company. On 30 Aug 1915 he reported to the 1st Field Ambulance with dysentery, and on 2 Sep 1915 he was sent on to the 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station who admitted him suffering with bronchitis.
