On 10 Feb 1916 at Maadi south of Cairo, Bill was drunk while on parade, earning him a reprimand. He was seconded to the Anzac Police Corps from 7 Apr 1916 till 26 Apr 1916, after which he rejoined the Remount unit at Heliopolis.
